Turning Fifty
01/06/03 |
Today you are turning fifty,
Now don't you think that is nifty?
No wheelchair, dentures, or years furiously spent,
Only days of joy and cheer.
Grandkids come to visit you now,
So excited to be Grandma's little angels,
For they know you have a special place,
In your heart that holds them blissfully near.
Your children recognize how special you are,
For you raised them well to treat life dear,
They reach for you in their time of need,
Aware of the caring heart that they see.
So do not be sad because you are fifty,
Be happy and glad for the life you have had,
For your children, friends, and grandkids know,
That they were blessed by angels, to have had you all these years.
So go and celebrate,
And do not fear,
Enjoy the caring that you feel,
For always an angel you will be.

Take Time
07/10/03 |
All alone in a world of hurriedness,
Noises deafening any silence within,
People busily hustling about,
No time to stop, observe the world around them.
No time to stop and smell the flowers,
No time to watch the beauty of a sunset,
No time to caress those who are beside them,
No time to pray, to look up to the Heavens.
If only we took the time for one another,
If only we stopped and looked all around,
If only we glanced high up at the stars,
If only we let God into our lives.
Take time to look at all that is around you,
Take time to smell and feel the beauty of the world,
Take a deep breath every time that you feel alone,
Take time, look about, be happy, be kind.
For you are not alone in this world,
There is always someone walking with you,
To hold your hand and guide you along,
To help you discover your beauty within.

Who I Am
07/25/03 |
I'm a butterfly,
I'm spreading my wings,
I'm an eagle,
I'm soaring far into the night.
I'm a kitten,
I'm purring ever so softly,
I'm a flower, |
 |
|
I'm blooming into quite an elegant sight.
I'm thirsty,
I'm longing for a cool, refreshing drink,
I'm hungry,
I'm tasting various types of food.
I'm changing,
I'm discovering who I am,
I'm learning,
I'm stumbling, but I'm finding my way.
I'm floating discreetly on a lone cloud,
I'm wishing sincerely upon a brightly lit star,
I'm spreading my wings even farther now,
I'm resting peacefully in God's own hands.
I'm living my life to its fullest now,
I'm learning to be grateful as I go about each day,
I'm thankful for having so many friends,
I'm thankful for being just who I am.

A Quiet Summer's Day
08/15/03
 |
The softness of a rose petal,
The smoothness of a baby's bottom,
The freshness of a summer breeze,
The velvety touch of a robin's feathers.
The glassy sheen of a lakeside calm,
Swans striding gracefully along the shore,
Fish form swirling circles in the water,
Jumping high to catch their fill.
Laughter fills the summer air,
Children play, making sand castles on the shore,
While others splash merrily in shallow pools,
Yet, others stroll casually along the trails.
All this on a quiet summer day,
Enjoying all of nature's elegance,
Laughing, sharing, joining in one's joy,
An environment of bonding for all of God's creatures.
These are the things that make life special,
Joining together to fill one's moments,
For we all need one another,
So grasp my hand and enjoy this summer day.

Friendships
08/25/03
|
A smile,
A soothing voice,
A twinkle in your eye,
Treasures held deep within your heart.
A kind word,
A pat on the back,
An embracing hug,
A caring thought.
No criticisms,
No judgments,
Secrets shared,
Confidence held within.
Friendships flourish,
Laughter shared,
As time goes on,
A closeness grows.
These are qualities of lasting friendships,
A tight bond is born,
Good times shared, as well as bad,
Lifetime memories created.

A True Friend
09/05/03 |
There is a special place inside,
It is reserved just for you,
When my heart is saddened, you are there,
For I am aware of how dearly you care.
You have been my friend in times of need,
You made me aware of what I can be,
If I shed a tear, you showed me how not to fear,
You lifted my spirits, so I would feel cheer.
Because of you, I feel blessed,
I am starting to feel like I am fully dressed,
So thank you friend for being there,
And always showing how much you care.

Anticipation
12/06/03
|
I'm sitting on the stairstep,
Crouching down so as not to be seen,
Mommy and Daddy are whispering,
If only they weren't so keen.
Santa's letter I have sent,
Cookies and milk are waiting,
Maybe if I stay really low,
I can sneak by on tippee-toe.
To see all the gifts that Santa's left,
And if he enjoyed his treats,
If only Mommy and Daddy,
To their bedroom, they would retreat.
The tree is lit up all shiny and bright,
An angel brightens the top,
So many presents below to see,
How wonderful this night will be.
Although on this night I cannot sleep,
My eyes will not stay shut,
My ears listen for Santa's sleigh,
And the excitement of the coming day,
Though Christmas comes but once a year,
How wondrous it would be,
If only everyday could be,
A special day for me.

Tranquillity And Peace
02/23/04 |
Jagged rocks embedded in the snow capped mountains,
Wind whistling, whirling through the tree tops,
A lone eagle proudly perched on a high branch,
Watching cautiously, protecting it's surroundings.
There is a calm here,
There is peace within,
An invisible shield protects me,
Out of harm's way, I feel safe.
No inner turmoil must I attend to,
No deception from those that surround me,
I am assured of tranquillity high on this mountain,
Only peace and solitude do I sense.
I must safeguard all my emotions,
And not lose my footing on the jagged rocks,
For I am protected here,
No longer abandoned, no neglectful intentions.
The eagle protects me;
No intruders may enter my domain,
Only those whom I permit may enter,
For I am safe from those who would do me harm.
So here I will stay until I am ready,
To face all the demons that haunt me,
For the jagged rocks will not hurt me,
Only safety and peace can penetrate my very being.

My Shell
03/09/04 |
All alone, shielded by darkness,
Covered by a shell, a protective layer hides me away,
Darkness and quiet engulf my very being,
My eyes confined in blackness, not yet opened to my surroundings.
The safety of the shell keeps the truth hidden from me,
Facing traumatic realities that may be too upsetting to me,
For I am not ready to crack open that shell,
To face all those fears that are buried deep inside, concealed, invisible to my mind.
Slowly I am being exposed, my protection is disappearing,
Small veins revealing themselves are penetrating my shell,
Like acid seeping through those veins,
Burning, searing, piercing my very soul.
The cracks are deepening now,
My shelter is being exposed,
Soon I will have to face the world,
And explore the avenues of my surroundings.
My eyes are opening now, a panoramic view do I see,
The world around me is coming into view,
My being is almost totally exposed now,
My shell crumbling quickly into pieces around me,
Unsteady am I, a new world encompasses me,
My legs are wobbly, unsure, feeling insecure,
Will I be able to survive this new environment that surrounds me?
To make a life that is meaningful and full?
For no longer can I stay hidden away,
I must learn to live my life to its fullest each day,
To go with my instincts and whatever life brings,
To hold my head up high and be proud of who I am.
There is no going back now,
My shell has crumbled around me,
For I will steady my legs, standing as tall as I can,
And smile as I go about each and everyday.

Birthday Blessings
06/10/04 |
This is the day,
That God made the world smile,
For he brought you here,
To mark your place on this earth.
A parent's cheer,
As you were born,
Though squealing through it all,
Your parents could not have been prouder.
You lead a life that brought laughter and tears,
You have found your way throughout the years,
Compassion and understanding are at the top of your list,
Qualities that you share with so much care.
So enjoy this very happy day,
The day that the angels smiled down on you;
The day that God blessed your parents with a bundle of joy;
Happy Birthday: Happy Day; Happiness forever more.
